"Somaly Mam as Bodhisattva"
We heard the presentation named "Somaly Mam as Bodhisattva." The presenter was Dr. Meg Tarafdar. She explained about
bodhisattva. A bodhisattva is an ordinary person who takes up a course of selfless service in one's life. They are motivated by
great compassion. The term "Bodhisattva" means a living being on the path to enlightenment. Bodhi means enlightenment and Sattva
means being. The buddha taught four truths about life. The first one is suffering. The second one is a cause for suffering. The third one is
an end of suffering. Finally, the last one is a path of practice that puts an end to suffering. According to buddha, this four truths lead our
life to nirvana and happiness. He wanted to all people got out of the suffering. That is the the reason why he emphasized this four
truths. However, Dr. Meg Tarafdar expressed Somaly Mam as bodhisattva because Somaly Mam underwent very painful life. Now she
overcame the suffering and helps other people. This is the similarity between bodhisattva and Somaly Mam.
